Peace be with You as we Welcome the Prince of Peace!
A beautiful Filipino song composed by Felipe De Leon in 1946 expresses our desire and hope for peace. World War II has left cities in ruins and destruction of life has beyond imagination. We are aware of what is happening in the world: war, cruelty and violence seems endless yet from a faith perspective, there is always hope and in the words of Jesus: Your liberation is at hand. Heaven and Earth will pass away but my Words will not pass away. I have been singing this song lately and I may not properly carry a tune but the song in Filipino is translated as: The night is peaceful and everything is quiet, including the start in the blue sky, The wind blows gently seemingly in love with peace of the whole world. Peaceful time is the core of life and it is God’s gift to humanity.
The motto of the upcoming Jubilee Year 2025: Pilgrims of Hope reminds us that there is much to hope for and our desire for peace is most urgent. The gospel of John tells us: The WORD became flesh and dwelt amongst us and we have seen His glory! No wonder the Angels from on high were singing: Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rest! The shepherds were blessed to receive a message from the angle of the Lord: Do not be afraid for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all people.
I have been with you for almost 18 months and I am very blessed to share with you the joys of the Christmas season. I am very grateful because I am in the midst of a very supportive community of faith. I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and prayers. Somehow you inspire me and the rest of the staff to do what God allows us to do. The achievements we have done for the past 18 months can easily manifest your willingness to support and provide financial assistance for things that must be done. Most important is the willingness of everyone to be part of One Community of Faith, knowing that the marvelous gift of God does not happen in uniformity but in diversity. We are a very diverse community and God allows us to transcend difference so that we can fulfill the prayer of Jesus: “that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, “that they also may be in us”. Our journey together will remain challenging but we must not forget the reason why God became man: the salvation of each is the most important.
May Our Blessed Mother bring us closer to the embrace of Her son, Jesus! Merry Christmas!
